My grandson and I went to a butterfly house yesterday. I got a few decent shots, but nothing that makes me go "WOW!" so I was a little discouraged and ready to sell all my equipment and give up. ha ha That's what I used to do in the old film days. Because with film, it cost so much money to find out you suck. Now it's free to find out. Anyway, I will not quit. What's bothering me the most is the shallow DOF on this lens. Surely, when photographing butterflies, you want to be very close AND you also want ALL of the butterfly in focus. It seems the closer you are to your subject with this lens, the shallower the DOF. That works with some subjects, but not butterflies. So, I need to figure out what to do to get in close and get the whole subject in focus. Next assigment!
