Work fast, but also take your time! Especially with a group. It's harder to get a great shot of all the subjects. So, yes, you need to work fast, they get antsy waiting for you to fiddle with camera settings and lighting, but make sure you get it right.
STOP SHOOTING WITH "I can fix that in Photoshop" IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND!!! Pretend like you don't have Photoshop!!! Take the time to get it as right as you can in camera!
Give them constant feedback.
And, the one I hate, USE A TRIPOD! You really do need to use the tripod, especially with groups. I have one shot that is perfect of all but one of the ladies. She had her eyes closed! If I would have shot with a tripod (which I did have with me) I could replace her head.
Details of today's shoot. I shot our local Go Red for Women Executive Committee for their annual campaign. Go Red is a nationwide movement to educate women about heart disease. This was a group of eight women. We did it about an hour and a half before sunset on our hospital's helipad, with the city skyline (and our capitol building) in the background. The helipad is on the roof of a 5-story building. One of my coworker's is on the committee and another one of my coworkers helped me. I had a BLAST! Maybe I do want to be a photographer when I grow up! :)
