Ad Shoot! :)

I got to do a shoot at work for a newspaper ad this week. We needed to update the copy and photo of a recurring ad. I feel very honored, but before I did it, I was so stressed out!

My coworker and I were to meet our nurse/model at 7:15 a.m. and walk across the hospital to be in our shooting room by 7:30 and she had to be done by about 7:50 in order to get to her area for work by 8 a.m. This was after I shot the 2nd Annual Nursing Awards Ceremony the night before. Which is another story in itself.

I set up the simple lighting and did a little practice shooting the day before. (left light stand and umbrella set up, but not speedlights.)

I was planning to be at work by 7 a.m. the day of the shoot to give myself time to get ready mentally and with my gear. Even though we got an unexpected snow storm, I was able to get to work by 7:03. I don't live far. Our nurse/model, unfortunately, lives about 35 minutes away, and didn't know it was snowing until she left her house, so she was about 15 minutes late.

When my coworker and the model had not arrived by 7:20, I decided to go on up to the room and get everything ready. We had to have someone let us in the locked room, and she was to be there a "little before 7:30." She got there about 7:35 and let me in the room. I got the lights ready and only had a minute or two of twiddling my thumbs, before my coworker and model showed up. This meant I had about ten minutes to do my very first "real" shoot!

aaaaaaahhhhhhhh

But everything after that went smoothly. The lights worked! The model, even though she was harried and had spilt coffee on her white scrub top on her way in, did a fantastic job and she looked fabulous! Our patient was very cooperative (lol, inside joke, our "patient" is a sort of robot, patient simulator.) I still need to work at posing the model better and positioning myself better, but I am happy with the image. I think! :)

I will post a PDF (if I can) of the final ad when it's ready.

The "action" shot will be used for the ad. I'm hoping we can use the "posed" shot at some stage also.

Thank you, Stephen!!

-employer's SB-900 through 42" umbrella at 1/8 power, almost straight on to subject and above her head
-my SB-800 on floor behind model at 1/64 power, bare, straight up to bounce off ceiling. I bounced it because we don't have a second light modifier for the flash yet and I don't honestly know how to properly use a second light, I only knew I'd need a little light on the background to prevent falloff.
-Fired with those wonderful Cactus triggers! :)
